Internationally acclaimed religious scholar in the field of Qur’anic studies, Sufi poet, champion of the unity of humanity, perfect `arif, Allamah Nasir al-Din Nasir Hunzai joined his True Master (passed away) in the city of Austin, America, after a brief illness, on Saturday, 14th of January, 2017. Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi rajiʿun.
Regarding such a death, it has been said: ‘The death of a scholar (alim) is the death of the world (alam)’. He was a hundred years old. A Persian verse reads,
It takes many many years for a stone to transform into a ruby in
Badakhshan or an agate in Yemen under the influence of the sun.
This verse suggests that after a long duration of time a mature `arif  like Allamah Nasir al-Din Nasir Hunzai is born to bring forth the wealth of knowledge and wisdom for humanity. However, according to the divine law everybody has to experience the taste of death (Qur’an 3:185).
Allamah Nasir al-Din Nasir Hunzai was born in Hydarabad village of the then Hunza State in 1917. His mother’s name was Rozibai and father’s name was Hubb-i Ali, who was one of the Khalifas of the village. Elders relate that when Allama Nasir al-Din Nasir Hunzai was born a beautiful rose miraculously blossomed on a dry wooden beam of the house. His father was aware of the symbolism of such supernatural phenomena, so he considered it a miracle from the Creator and wrapped it in a clean piece of cloth and put it in an elevated part of his house. He performed a prostration of gratitude to the Creator for this divine gift and arranged a feast for the people of the village as a practical expression of thankfulness.

Prof. Dr. Allama Nasir al-Din Nasir Hunzai is the author of over a hundred books related to the esoteric interpretation of the Holy Qur'an. He writes both prose as well as poetry. He is the first person to have a Diwan of poetry in Burushaski, his mother tongue, and is known as "Baba-i Burushaski" (Father of Burushaski) for his services to that language. Allama Nasir al-Din Nasir Hunzai composed Burushaskī letters in Arabic script in 1940 for the first time in the history of this language. He is the first organised Sufi poet who published his collection of poetry for the first time. It is an invaluable service to the Burushaskī speaking community and world linguistic heritage that he has immortalised a progressively dying language by composing the first Urdu-Burushaski Dictionary which contains 40,000 words. The University of Karachi has published this dictionary in three volumes in collaboration with the Burushaski Research Academy. In addition, he provided assistance to Professor Hermann Berger of Heidelberg University, Germany to compose the first Burushaski German dictionary. Owing to his substantial contribution he was named co-author of the dictionary with Professor Hermann Berger. The dictionary was published by the Heidelberg University of Germany in 1995. He also co-authored the book ‘Burushaski Proverbs’ in collaboration with Professor Tiffou of Montreal University, Canada. He also composes poetry in three other languages: Urdu, Persian and Turkish. His contribution to spiritual science is widely recognised. On 23 March, 2001, the Federal Government of Pakistan conferred upon Allama Hunzai the medal of Sitara-i-Imtiaz, in recognition of his contribution in developing new perspectives in the field of Qur’anic Studies. In 1994, the Government of Gilgit-Baltistan conferred upon him the title of ‘Hakim al-Qalam (the sage of the pen).
In the field of social work Allama Hunzai established the first volunteer corps in Hydarabad village in 1957. In those difficult times he was able to establish the first girls’ school in Hunza, in the village Hydarabad. He also established the first Band in Hunza, which was named ‘Shaheen Band’.

"United States President Barack Obama has congratulated renowned Pakistani scholar and poet Professor Allama Nasiruddin Hunzai on his 100th birth anniversary and hoped that his scholarly work will further broaden vision of people in the years to come. He has written several articles on women folk for enhancing their status." (thenews.com.pk)
O (my) Mawla! If I cannot reach you for your circumambulation, Then
I will circumambulate those who are intoxicated by the wine
of your love.
In his will Allama Hunzai expressed his desire that he should be buried in the native village Hydarabad (Shah Abad) near the tomb of his father.
O, the spirit of the lover do not enter the dead grave, dust is not your abode.
Rather enter the subtle body of your Friend and relive your eternal life there.
